Water Lilies

ymphaea species is the most common known of all water plants and sometimes called the queen of aquatics. They have exquisite sometimes perfumed flowers held above the water line. Tropical water lilies have flowers held aloft on long stems. Hardy varieties will tolerate frost and flower even in Victoria and Tasmania. There are also night flowering waterlilies. There are new hybrids appearing constantly giving a large range of sizes and colours.

Hardy water lilies will start flowering from early spring and tropical water lilies start their flowering season from November through into autumn.

All water lilies need still water, plenty of sun and shelter from winds to perform well. They are easy to grow and like a well fertilised, high nitrogen heavy soil and given fertiliser tablets at the start of spring.

Water lilies can be grown as container plants on the patio or verandah, as long as they are given plenty of sun.

Water lilies are sold as rhizomes ready to pot and put into your water garden. All plants come with comprehensive planting instructions.
